« Journal d’une Jeune Fille Irlandaise »

The daughter of an Irish doctor and an English mother, Ann Mahoney, grew up in Youghal, a town in the south of Ireland. At 17, she leaves the countryside to work in the city of Cork, where she discovers the social realities of her times. Anne’s life is turned upside down with the arrival of the worst famine in Ireland’s history.

With her friend Eileen, Ann tries to help the most needy, but when the whole country is touched by disease and death, the population revolts.

After her brother, Patrick is arrested and exiled for treason, Ann decides to leave her beloved country for a better life overseas.

Full of hope and courage, Ann embarks upon a long and difficult voyage.
